Venus Williams was in Wimbledon wonderland after landing her fourth Ladies’ title – and then warned that she and her sister Serena are desperate for more Grand Slam success.
Following her straight-sets win over Marion Bartoli, the American No 23 seed admitted: “It’s so wonderful and I feel fantastic – even though I’m very tired.
I’ve just played four matches in four days, which isn’t supposed to happen at Wimbledon but I still feel on top of the world. I now have one more Wimbledon title than Serena but every time one of us wins here, it motivates the other to go and do the same.” And Venus reckons there is every chance of another all-Williams Wimbledon final - as happened in 2002 and 2003 - in the future.
